SHOULDERING THE WEIGHT OF MCC COMMAND LEADERSHIP

There is a saying that you never know how hard a job is until you have to do it yourself.
This sentiment reflects the profound, often unexpected, difficulty of leadership, and highlights that the true understanding of responsibility and decision-making pressure only comes through direct experience. While often applied to generally overlooked, or tough environments, the phrase emphasizes that the weight of command is underestimated until personally endured. This perspective of leadership responsibility further suggests that external observers, or those not in charge, cannot grasp the nuances, stresses and decision-making required of a commander.
Bottom line is that MCC commanders lead by example; modeling integrity, demonstrating accountability, actively showing initiative, support, and engagement. Thus in leading by example, command leadership endeavors to create the crucial space for building trust, as cadets are more likely to follow leaders who demonstrate dedication rather than just demanding it.
